The chairman of the Al-R'ay channel, Jassem Boudai, said sources close to the kidnappers have told the station that Carroll is being held in downtown Baghdad with a group of women.

The Kuwaiti station on 9 February broadcast a video of Carroll in which she urged her supporters to do whatever is necessary to secure her release.

The kidnappers, a group calling itself the Brigades of Vengeance, have demanded the release of all Iraqi women in custody in exchange for Carroll's freedom.

Carroll, a freelance journalist for the "Christian Science Monitor" newspaper, was abducted 7 January in Baghdad by armed men who shot dead her Iraqi interpreter.
