14 February 2006 -- Iraq has become the most deadly conflict for journalists to cover in nearly a quarter century.
That's a key finding of the "Attacks On The Press 2005" report issued by the Committee to Protect Journalists today.
Twenty-two reporters were killed in Iraq last year, and one so far this year. In total, 61 journalists have died while covering the Iraqi conflict, more than 75 percent of them Iraqis.
The total tops the 58 killed covering the 1993-96 conflict in Algeria. It is also the highest journalist death toll reported for any conflict in the 24-year history of the New York-based advocacy group.
