Cuban Cigar Maker Beaten To Death In Moscow

(RFE/RL) March 6, 2006 -- A Cuban cigar maker was beaten to death in Moscow on March 5, Russian media reported.

According to Russian television station NTV, the victim, Luis Cardenas Miranda, numbered Cuban leader Fidel Castro among his clients.


Miranda, 71, had come to Moscow for a short stay, working at an upscale restaurant where he rolled cigars for 30 euros ($36) each.


He was reportedly attacked by two youths as he was making his way home early on March 5.
