Canadian, Spanish Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan

Members of the Spanish contingent in Afghanistan (file photo) (epa) July 9, 2006 -- Two soldiers from the NATO-led force and the U.S.-led coalition have been killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan.

Spanish officials said today that a Spanish soldier died after a roadside blast hit his NATO-led International Security Assistance Force patrol in the western province of Farah on July 8.


Four other soldiers were also wounded. Their nationality was not disclosed.


The other fatality was a Canadian soldier in the U.S.-led coalition died. He was killed on July 9 of wounds sustained while fighting Taliban militants in Kandahar Province, in the south of the country.


The bodies of 10 militants killed in an air strike were found today in the area.
