Moscow Wants Talks On NATO-Russia Missile Shield

Sergei Lavrov (file photo) (AFP) June 3, 2007 -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today called for renewed talks with the United States on a joint missile-defense system within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council.
Lavrov said Moscow is ready to "analyze things together" in an "honest" manner.

Tensions have been running high over a U.S. plan to place elements of a missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Russia has voiced its opposition to the plan, and has tested a new missile designed to penetrate such a shield.
