Video Purports To Show Wedding Iraqis Say U.S. Attacked

24 May 2004 -- A videotape has been broadcast purporting to show footage of a wedding party Iraqis say was attacked by U.S. aircraft.

The attack that killed about 40 people occurred on 19 May in a remote area near the Syrian border. Iraqis say at least 10 of those killed were children.

The U.S. military says its target was a safehouse used by foreign fighters and that there was no evidence of a wedding.

But a film broadcast by Associated Press Television News shows footage from a home video purportedly of the wedding party, combined with APTN video of the aftermath of the attack showing remnants of musical instruments and other apparent evidence of wedding celebrations.

Some victims and survivors of the attack appear to be present in the footage of the wedding.
