Two Poles Abducted Near Baghdad

1 June 2004 -- A Polish Army spokesman says two Polish construction workers were abducted today near Baghdad, but one later managed to escape.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Strzelecki said the two men were abducted from their apartment northwest of the Iraqi capital and forced into a car, before one of them got away and reached coalition forces.

Strzelecki, the spokesman for the Polish-led multinational division in Iraq, said by telephone from Camp Babylon in Iraq that a search is now under way for the second man.
