Georgian Parliament To Send Troops To Afghanistan

16 September 2004 -- Georgian lawmakers have authorized the government to contribute 50 U.S.-trained mountain troops to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.

The resolution was adopted today without debate. The Georgian soldiers will leave within days for a three-month mission to Afghanistan.

Georgia already has peacekeepers in Kosovo and is a member of the U.S.-led stabilization force in Iraq.
