29 September 2004 -- Iraqi Defense Minister Hasim al-Shalaan said today that U.S. and Iraqi forces will start a military offensive during October to retake rebel-held cities in Iraq.
Shalaan gave no details, but he said that "all" the cities presently held by insurgents will be recaptured.
Today was another day of casualties in Iraq. Six Iraqis were killed in violence across the country, including Abd al-Ghani Mijbas, a Shi'ite politician, and his teenage son, who were shot in the northeastern city of Baquba.
Ten U.S. soldiers were wounded in several attacks in the country's north.
