Ivanov told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York last night that the potential threats include NATO's eastward expansion and the possible deployment of U.S. missiles in East European countries that recently joined NATO.
Ivanov also said Moscow is concerned about U.S. military presence in countries neighboring Russia, particularly Georgia.
Ivanov said Russia is not opposed to the U.S. military training Georgian soldiers for peacekeeping operations outside Georgia. But he said Russia would not like to see those newly trained soldiers, "return to their country only to take part in the internal conflicts in Abkhazia or South Ossetia."
