In the deadliest single reported attack on 19 June, at least 23 people were killed and 36 others injured when a suicide bomber set off explosives in a Baghdad restaurant a few hundred meters from the heavily guarded Green Zone government headquarters.
Many of the victims were reported to be Iraqi police officers who had come to the restaurant for lunch.
The bombing, claimed by the Al-Qaeda group in Iraq, was the deadliest attack in Baghdad for six weeks.
In another development, the U.S. military said U.S.-led forces had killed 15 insurgents in battles near Al-Fallujah in Al-Anbar Province.
