Shi'ite Radicals: 1 Million Iraqis Want U.S.-Led Troops Out

29 July 2005 -- Radicals within Iraq's Shi'ite Muslim majority say they have collected 1 million signatures calling on U.S.-led troops to leave Iraq.

AFP today quotes Abdel Zahra al-Suwaidi, an aide to radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, as making the announcement.

He told AFP that the petition is addressed to the international community to show that Iraqis want occupation forces to leave Iraq as soon as possible.
