Canadian soldiers of the International Security and Assitance Force in Kandahar in March (epa)
August 3, 2006 -- A soldier serving with NATO-led forces in Afghanistan has been killed and a second injured in a predawn roadside-bomb explosion in the southern province of Kandahar today.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force did not immediately provide the nationalities of the two soldiers.
The incident marks the fourth death of a soldier serving with NATO-led forces since the alliance formally took command of the southern region from the U.S.-led coalition on July 31.
Elsewhere, reports say Afghan government troops backed by NATO planes today killed 10 Taliban fighters in Helmand Province, west of Kandahar Province.
The fighting was part of an operation that the Afghan government says claimed the lives of another 18 militants on August 2.
