Turkmen Oppositionist Kuliev To Be Buried In Norway


April 12, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Turkmen authorities have rejected a request by relatives of opposition leader Avdy Kuliev to bury him in Turkmenistan, RFE/RL's Turkmen Service reported.


Kuliev died in Norway earlier this week at the age of 71 after undergoing stomach surgery.


His wife, Tatyana Kulieva, told RFE/RL his burial will take place in Oslo next week.


Kuliev was Turkmenistan's first foreign minister and later become a prominent opposition leader and head of the United Turkmen opposition.
