Expert On Extremism Attacked In St. Petersburg


Foreign students have held rallies against attacks on foreign nationals in St. Petersburg (file) (epa) June 20, 2007 -- A Russian expert on racist extremism is in hospital after being attacked near her house in St. Petersburg, RFE/RL's Russian Service reported.


Valentina Uzunova, a human rights activist, was beaten up on June 19 and is suffering from concussion as a result.


According to RFE/RL's Russian Service correspondent, Uzunova had received several threats.


The attack coincided with one-year anniversary of the murder of another prominent human rights activist, Nikolai Girienko.
