At least eight people died when gunmen swooped on a row of goldsmiths' shops in a robbery in western Baghdad on October 17 and ended up in a gunfight with security forces.
Officials said the gunmen used hand grenades and small arms to kill three gold shop owners in a market in Mansour district.
The attackers were met by soldiers and police when they emerged from the shops.
Two gunmen, three security personnel died in the shoot-out.
It remains unclear if four bystanders were killed or wounded. Several of the gunmen managed to escape after the daylight robbery.
