Iran says it has successfully test-fired an improved version of a medium range missile, drawing sharp international reaction.

Iran says the Sejil-2 missile has a range of about 2,000 kilometers, which would put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf within reach.

The White House said the test undermine Iran's claims of peaceful intentions.

In Copenhagen, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the test makes the case for "moving further on sanctions."

France, meanwhile, said the test sends a "very bad signal" and heightens concerns about Iran's nuclear program, while Germany labeled it "alarming."

The West says that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.
