Families of victims of China's bloody Tiananmen Square crackdown have demanded the truth about events of June 4, 1989.

To mark the 21st anniversary of the crackdown on June 4, the Tiananmen Mothers released a letter through Human Rights in China complaining that the communist leadership still classifies all information about the event as "top secret."

The group is calling for an independent investigation, publication of the names of all who were killed, compensation for families, and punishment for responsible officials.

Hundreds were killed when Chinese forces cracked down on pro-democracy protestors in and around Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

Reports about the crackdown are still censored in China.
