BISHKEK -- Kyrgyz opposition parties and movements are holding mass demonstrations against the government, RFE/RL’s Kyrgyz Service reports.
In Bishkek, the capital, several thousand demonstrators gathered in various sites on March 27 to express their dissatisfaction with the authorities.
The protesters are demanding that Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev replace all of the country's power ministers and half of the members of the Central Electoral Committee.
They are also urging Bakiev to stop the persecution of opposition activists and independent journalists.
Kyrgyz opposition leaders warned Bakiev that if their demands are not fulfilled by April 20, more mass protest actions would be organized.
