A Nigerian man suspected of trying to detonate an explosive device on a U.S.-bound airplane on Christmas Day is scheduled to appear at a federal courthouse in Detroit later today.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was indicted earlier this week on six counts connected to his alleged attempt to blow up the Amsterdam-Detroit flight.

The charges include attempted murder and trying to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Abdulmutallab could face life imprisonment if convicted. Abdulmutallab's actions sparked a drastic tightening of the screening process for passengers traveling to the United States.

A group of Muslim leaders plan to hold a rally outside the courthouse with signs that read "not in our name" to protest the would-be bombers actions.
