KYIV -- Some 300 NGO members and business owners in Kyiv picketed the Ukrainian parliament to demand the resignation of the capital's controversial mayor, Leonid Chernovetsky, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

The parliament was scheduled to discuss the results of an investigation into alleged illegal activities by Chernovetsky's administration on June 10, but the issue was not included on the agenda.

Chernovetsky, 57, is accused of graft and corruption and of using the city's budget to fund his reelection campaign.

He was reelected as mayor in 2008.

Protesters said they will continue their protest actions until Chernovetsky steps down.
