Russia To Investigate Death Of Child Adopted By U.S. Couple

MOSCOW -- The Russian Prosecutor-General's Office said it has launched an investigation into the death of a seven-year-old Russian boy in the United States, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

Ivan Skorobogatov was born in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk in 2002. In 2003, he and his twin sister were adopted by American Michael Craver and his wife, Nanette, who live in Pennsylvania.

Ivan, who was renamed Nathaniel Michael Craver, died of brain injuries in August 2009. His adoptive parents have been arrested and charged with murder.

Vladimir Markin, a spokesman of the investigative committee of the prosecutor's office, told journalists in Moscow on March 5 that Russia is also investigating the case as a homicide.
