GANCA, Azerbaijan -- At least one man has been reported killed and several others were reported wounded during shoot-outs between security forces and an armed group in Azerbaijan.
An RFE/RL correspondent at the scene says several armed individuals were holed up in an apartment block surrounded by security forces in the country's second-largest city of Ganca early on April 6.
Police at the scene said the armed men opened fire at law enforcement officers and were detained after several hours of shoot-outs.
Rescue services' officials said one police officer was killed in the fighting and five security officers were injured.
National Security Ministry spokesman Arif Babaev confirmed that security forces had conducted an operation in Ganca, but declined to give any details.
