Report Says CIA Misled U.S. Officials, Public On Interrogation Program

"The Washington Post" has quoted a Senate report saying the CIA misled the U.S. government and public about some aspects of its interrogation program.

The paper says that some U.S. officials who have seen the classified Senate Intelligence Committee report say it claims the CIA hid details about the harsh treatment of some detainees in its interrogation program and reveals new information about the CIA's secret detention facilities, or "black sites."

It added that the CIA gained its most valuable information without the aid of "enhanced interrogation techniques."

The Intelligence Committee has the oversight responsibility for the CIA.

"The Washington Post" says the 6,300-page report was based on interviews with current and former U.S. officials.

A CIA spokesman said the agency cannot comment because it has not seen a final version of the report. (Reuters, "The Washington Post"
