President Hamid Karzai said his Afghan government -- as well as its Western-nation supporters -- have had contacts with Taliban militants in a bid to seek a negotiated end to the Afghan conflict.

He made the comment in an interview on Britain's Channel 4 News during a visit this week to London.

Karzai also said that representatives of the United States and Britain had Taliban contacts -- but not necessarily with the same people who have been talking to the Afghan government.

No further details were given. Karzai said it could be another one to three years before the conflict is resolved.
