The United States is providing Moldova more than $2 million in extra funds to help bolster the rule of law in the small, impoverished European country.
At a ceremony in the Moldovan capital, Chisinau, Brian A. Nichols, the U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for international narcotics and law enforcement affairs, and Moldova's General Secretary Victor Bodiu signed an amendment to an agreement on law development in Moldova.
According to the United States, the amendment focuses on combating corruption, trafficking in persons, and organized crime.
The U.S. State Department called the assistance "another concrete example of the strong partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova."
