The former top commander of Russia's land forces, General Vladimir Chirkin, has been sentenced to five years in jail for bribe-taking.
The sentence was handed down by a military court in Moscow on August 14.
Chirkin was found guilty of taking a 450,000 ruble ($13,600) bribe in 2008 to help arrange an apartment for a retired military officer.
At the time, Chirkin was component commander of the Moscow military region.
Chirkin served as commander in chief of the Russian Army’s Ground Forces from 2012 to 2013.
