Seven Bodies Found After Ukraine Mine Blast

Rescuers have found the bodies of seven miners following a gas explosion in a coal mine in eastern Ukraine.

Two other miners remain missing.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service said the blast near the city of Kirovsk in the Donetsk region occurred early on June 12 at a depth of some 300 meters.

The mine is about 90 kilometers from the regional capital, Donetsk, and just 40 kilometers from Slovyansk, where government forces are fighting against pro-Russian separatists.

Such accidents are a regular occurrence at Ukrainian mines, most of which are located in the country's industrial eastern regions.
Based on reporting by AFP and Reuters

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
