1 March 2006 -- Russia and Iran resume talks today over Moscow's proposal to set up a joint venture to enrich uranium on Russian territory.
Heading the Iranian delegation for the talks in Moscow is chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The deal aims to ease Western fears Iran will not develop nuclear weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is optimistic a deal can be reached.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said on 28 February that Iran will not stop uranium-enrichment activities even if it accept's Moscow's offer.
His comments came a day after the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a report that it still cannot confirm there is no covert nuclear activity in Iran.
