June 13, 2006 -- Tajikistan today criticized Uzbekistan for repeatedly refused to demarcate minefields along the two states' borders.
In all, Dushanbe says 68 Tajiks, including 20 children, have been killed since 1999 by land mines planted by Uzbekistan. Another eight Tajiks have been shot and killed and six others wounded by Uzbek border guards since 2000.
The statement is the latest in a series of accusations made by both countries. Also on June 13, a Tajik court jailed an Uzbek for espionage and another Uzbek was accused of illegally crossing the Uzbek-Tajik border.
