Six Missing After Russian Helicopter Disappears

(RFE/RL) September 10, 2007 -- Russian transport officials say rescuers are searching for six crew members of a civilian helicopter that has gone missing in a remote Arctic province.

Radio contact with the helicopter was lost on the afternoon of September 9 as the craft flew near the oil-industry city of Salekhard, about 2,000 kilometers northeast of Moscow.

Poor weather forced searchers to call off rescue flights on September 9.

Reports say bad weather and poor visibility may have caused the helicopter to crash.
