Policemen Wounded In Latest Daghestan Attack

14 July 2005 -- The authorities in Russia's southern republic of Daghestan say two policemen were wounded tonight in the regional capital Makhachkala when a bomb blew up as their patrol car was passing.

The latest violence comes just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed his government will stabilize the situation in Daghestan, where police have come increasingly under attack.

Radical Islamic militants as well as criminal gangs are believed to be linked to the upsurge in violence.
