Azerbaijani Police Break Up Protest Against Iran

(RFE/RL) June 16, 2006 -- Azerbaijani police today broke up a demonstration near the Iranian Embassy in Baku.

About 30 demonstrators were protesting the treatment of ethnic Azeris in Iran.

Police detained a dozen demonstrators from the opposition Popular Front.

Azerbaijani opposition parties and Iranian Azeri dissidents claim scores of Azeris have been killed and hundreds arrested at protests in northern Iran since May.
