U.S. Soldier Found Guilty Of Homicide In Iraqi Killings

(RFE/RL) March 17, 2007 -- A U.S. soldier has been found guilty of negligent homicide and obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting deaths of three Iraqi detainees.

A military panel at Fort Campbell in Kentucky acquitted Staff Sergeant Raymond Girouard, 24, of more serious charges of premeditated murder in connection with the incident in May of last year.

Girouard had been accused of telling soldiers under his command to release the detainees they had captured near Samarra and shoot them as they fled.
