Bitter divisions are deepening in the German city of Dresden following another night of mass demonstrations. German police say 25,000 people took to the streets to protest against what they call the “Islamization” of Germany – despite appeals to call off the protest in respect for the victims of the Paris terror attacks. “Pegida” stands for “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West,” and its protests have grown rapidly. Its critics accuse it of spreading hatred – and using the Paris attacks for political gain. (Ray Furlong, Kieran D’Arcy, RFE/RL)
