Russian Sets Record For Time In Space

16 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russian cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev today broke the record for the longest total time spent in space.

Aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Krikalev passed the record previously held by fellow-Russian Sergei Avdeev, who has spent a total of 747 days and 14 hours in space.

With the mission in the ISS due to continue into October, 46-year-old Krikalev will be able to add to his achievement.
