The directives follow the bombing of a major Shi'ite shrine on 22 February and subsequent attacks on Sunni mosques around Iraq. In all, more than 130 people have been reported killed.
Ja’fari did not elaborate on the travel ban or explain whether he was simply referring to today's daytime curfew in Baghdad, which expired at 4 p.m. Tonight government-run television said the daytime curfew will be maintained tomorrow in Baghdad and in three neighboring provinces.

Iraqi religious and government leaders, as well as international officials, condemned the February 22 bomb attack that wrecked the Golden Mosque, a major Shi'ite Muslim shrine in Samarra. Below is a selection of statements on the incident.
