Three Wounded In Shooting In Georgian Rebel Region

(RFE/RL) January 28, 2007 -- Three police officers were reportedly wounded in a shoot-out in Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia early today.

South Ossetian official Boris Chochiev described the attack on police posts as a provocation by Georgian government forces.

Chochiev said at least one of the police officers was in serious condition.

South Ossetia broke away from Georgia after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.
