Afghan Man Reportedly Kills Wife For Wanting Job

Amnesty International says reports that an Afghan man killed his wife because she wanted a job are an example of "yet another egregious killing" in Afghanistan.

Amnesty released its statement after reports that Herat resident Muhammad Anwar killed his wife, Ghulam, during an argument about her working for a private company.

Ghulam's relatives dispute the account, saying Anwar killed his wife because she refused to give him money for illegal drugs.

The killing came just two weeks after another woman in Herat was beheaded by her husband's relatives for allegedly refusing to work as a prostitute.

In its statement, Amnesty International asked, "How many more women and girls have to die for the government to wake up and guarantee basic human rights for all?"
