19 Militants, Seven Soldiers Reported Killed In North Waziristan Clash

Pakistan’s military says a clash in a restive northwestern tribal region has killed 19 militants and seven soldiers.

The fighting occurred overnight in the restive northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan near the Afghan border.

The military said a militant detonated his suicide vest late on June 7, killing the seven soldiers.

The blast triggered a gunbattle between militants and troops in which the insurgents were killed.

North Waziristan has been a hub for Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants since the early 2000s.

The Pakistani military has been battling militants there for the last year.

The area is generally off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to independently verify the number and identity of the dead.
