Tajikistan's Interior Ministry says security forces have killed one Islamist militant who escaped prison nearly a year ago and recaptured another, leaving two of the 25 escapees still on the run.
One of its servicemen was also killed and two others were wounded in a gunfight with the militants some 250 kilometers east of the capital, Dushanbe, on July 26.
Tajikistan has been fighting a group of militants in the country's east since the jailbreak in August 2010.
Authorities say the 25 prisoners who escaped last year included the organizers of an alleged coup plot.
President Imomali Rakhmon fired almost the entire leadership of the security services after the jailbreak.
Authorities say 16 of the fugitives have now been recaptured and a further seven killed.
