UN, U.S. Condemn Afghan Suicide Attacks

The United Nations and the United States have condemned the December 11 suicide attack at a French-financed school in Kabul that killed one German citizen and wounded several other people.

A UN statement on December 12 said the school attack and another suicide bombing on the same day that killed six Afghan soldiers reinforced serious concerns at the threats posed by the Taliban and other militant groups.

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul reiterated Washington's continued commitment to helping provide "peace and stability for the Afghan people."

Afghan police said a teenage bomber blew himself up in the audience of the play at Istiqlal High School – which is attached to Kabul’s long-established French cultural center.

Earlier on December 11, a suicide bomber targeted a bus carrying Afghan troops in Tangi Tarakhil on the outskirts of Kabul. The Taliban claimed responsibility for that attack.
