Slobodan Davidovic was convicted of participating in the killings of six Muslims in Srebrenica, Bosnia in 1995. He was also convicted of torturing a Croat prisoner during the 1991 Serbo-Croat war.
Both the prosecution and Davidovic said they will appeal the sentence.
Five other members of Davidovic's paramilitary unit are currently being tried in Serbia.
Bosnian Serb troops killed more than 7,000 Muslim men and boys after capturing Srebrenica in 1995.
