Chechen Court Jails Algerian For 20 Years


(RFE/RL) June 19, 2006 -- The Chechen Supreme Court has sentenced an Algerian national to 20 years in prison for membership of an illegal armed group.


Kamel Bourahla was also charged with taking part in the abduction of a senior military commander in Chechnya in 2001, and with illegally entering Chechnya from Georgia's Pankisi Gorge.


Bourahla was arrested in 2004 in Daghestan, where he was being treated for an injury.
