Turkmen People's Council To Meet This Month

Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) March 1, 2007 -- Turkmenistan’s new President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov has signed a decree setting March 30 as the date for a session of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council).

The 2,500-member Halk Maslahaty usually meets only once a year, around Independence Day in October, but it is called to assemble when there are important decisions to approve.

The council will elect a new chairman at the session.
