Kasparov Urges EU To Maintain Unity On Russia


Garry Kasparov has been visiting the European Parliament in Strasbourg (epa) May 23, 2007 -- Russian opposition activist Garry Kasparov is urging European leaders to remain unified against what he has called an increasingly assertive Kremlin.


During a visit to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Kasparov said that due to the Kremlin elite's difficulties in finding a successor to President Vladimir Putin, Russia risked political chaos as it heads into the 2008 presidential elections.


Kasparov urged the EU to step up its support for opposition groups in Russia.
