Officials in Pakistan say at least five suspected militants have been killed and three others injured in a U.S. drone strike in the Shawal district of North Waziristan.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, an intelligence official told RFE/RL that the drone fired two missiles, striking a house in the village of Zwedar near the Afghan border on August 18.
The men killed and injured in the attack were believed to be members of the Hafiz Gul Bahdar group of the Pakistani Taliban.
U.S. drone strikes are deeply unpopular in Pakistan, and the attack is the first since Pakistani intelligence chief Lieutenant General Zaheer ul-Islam and CIA Director David Petraeus met in Washington earlier this month for talks said to include a discussion of U.S. drone strikes.
