The Indian Embassy in Moscow said on March 6 that an Indian national, Shri Mohammed Asfan, "tragically died" and his remains will be repatriated from Russia. Indian media reports said Asfan died in Ukraine after he was double-crossed by recruiters who promised him a job as a "helper" in Russia but instead forced him to fight alongside Russian armed forces against Ukrainian troops. Earlier, a video appeared on the Internet showing seven Indian citizens who said they were being forced to fight for Russia in Ukraine after they came to Russia in December and were “tricked” by a guide.
