Iranian Navy Ships To Stop At Russian Port

Russia’s Navy says ships from the Iranian Navy will make a stop this summer at the port of Astrakhan, the naval base of Russia's Caspian Sea fleet.

The press service for Russia’s Southern Military District said that Iranian naval commanders are expected to meet with the Caspian Sea fleet’s leadership and the leadership of Russia's Astrakhan Province.

The exact date of the visit was not announced.

Russia’s Navy says the visit is part of a plan for developing and strengthening international cooperation with Caspian Sea states.

The "Tatarstan" -- a naval vessel in Russia’s Caspian Sea fleet -- made a stop at the Iranian port of Enzeli in 2007.

Based on reporting by ITAR-TASS and pravda.ru

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
