RFE/RL is looking for a freelance correspondent in Central Asia with excellent reporting and writing skills, a proactive attitude, a great eye for a story, and a strong background in the region. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious journalist to reach a broad regional and international audience. You must be a skilled storyteller as well as a strong reporter – able to produce compelling, accurate, and unique articles that go beyond rehashing the latest news to deconstructing and contextualizing key events and issues across Central Asia. We're looking for someone who can drive the news agenda, rather than just respond to it, who can pitch feature stories that are often missed by other news outlets. We're also looking for someone who is focused on issues rather than events – interested in telling compelling human stories that otherwise might not be heard. This is a freelance position, paying a competitive monthly retainer. Fluency in Russian or one of the languages of Central Asia a must. Photo experience desired.
We’re looking for:
- Proven track record as an excellent reporter/writer
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Fluency in one of the languages of Central Asia, or Russian
Interested? Send your CV and a cover letter in English including in the subject line the vacancy number as above.
